2002: Good Shepherd's 100th Birthday
On Sunday, April 21, 2002, Good Shepherd celebrated our
“Foundation Stone Centenary Jubilee” -- the 100th anniversary of the
laying of the cornerstone of our church building when
it was known as the Chapel of the Incarnation. The celebration,
however, lasted much of the year, with special events, outings and dinners.
A large and representative group of parishioners prepared and
planned for almost a year:: a banner was designed and created and now graces
our altar, a parish history was being researched, our long-awaited
historical wall was unveiled on Consecration Sunday, 1999, a
survey of neighborhood resources and needs was done, a
Centennial quilt is in the making, and lots more.
Fellowship
Knowing from experience that the people who eat and
pray together stay together, Good Shepherd has a longstanding
and popular tradition of regular monthly dinners, as well as
Advent and Lenten suppers following the mid-week Eucharist. Coffee
hour receptions regularly follow the Sunday Eucharist,
providing an opportunity for casual socializing.
The Centennial Quilters
To parallel the planning of our parish Centennial in
a visual way, some women of the parish, undertook the creation of
a Centennial Quilt, using the “Cathedral Window” pattern.
When completed, the quilt will present the glorious mosaic of
stained glass, gently echoing the wonderful mosaic of our parish
family. The quilt will be auctioned for the benefit of the parish.
