People

Of all our parish resources, the most precious is our people. The congregation of Good Shepherd is diverse, consisting of a dozen different nationalities and races, with persons of every marital status and sexual preference worshiping together in loving harmony. While many members live close to the church, others travel from different parts of Manhattan as well as from other boroughs. All visitors who have been admitted to Communion in their own churches are welcome to share in the Holy Communion.

Friends of the parish are scattered all over the world, as members have relocated and retired. Homecoming Sunday in September finds many of these old friends returning to a joyous celebration year after year.

Members of the parish volunteer to serve as ushers, readers, servers, altar guild and coffee-hour hosts. In addition to our new Rector, there is a part-time salaried staff including an organist-choirmaster and parish administrator.

Thanks for the Melodies... A Fond Farewell to Parker Kitterman
On August 1, we bid a final fond farewell to our Music Director and Organist, Parker Kitterman, as he takes on a new challenge and opportunity as the full-time Director of Music at the historic Christ Church in downtown Philadelphia.  Though sad to be saying goodbye to a friend and colleague, we are also excited by this advancement in his career; we are cheering him on.
Though he was here for only two years, we were blessed to sing his compositions, several of which Parker dedicated to the choirs of Good Shepherd. One favorite hymn tune was even named after our neighborhood of Kips Bay. While here, Parker established a professional choir, a children's choir, and our own community choir, The Shepherd Singers.
Parker will also be missed for his willingness to scale the roof as needed, catch visiting squirrels, and make us special Mardi Gras pancakes.
Parker, you go with our blessing.
Your devoted fans at Church of the Good Shepherd
